PH balance is the key to appetite control

Ever wonder "Why am I always hungry?". Now there's a question that I have only recently been able to answer by paying more attention to what my body needs and why. A college profressor of mine (also a Chiropractor) introduced me to the idea that certain foods, drinks and medications cause our bodies to become more acidic or alkaline.

In short, PH is the potential of hydrogen and is the measurable acidity or alkalinity of a solution. The PH scale ranges from 5.0 to 9.5, with a normal blood PH being between 7.35 and 7.45. What exactly does your body do when your PH leans too far in one direction or the other? Your body begins to pull minerals from your bones and vital organs in order to try and regain its natural PH balance.

So, it would stand to reason that your body would drive you to eat or drink in order to replace or re-balance those mineral stores, correct? You got it! Your appetite will kick in and actually drive you to take in more nutrients in order to try and restore the PH balance of your blood.

I'm as guilty as anyone when it comes to choices that are not so great....a few of my favorite things are cheese, red meat, coffee, martini's and diet soda but these are also choices that increase the acidity of our bodies, therefore increasing appetite. Who knew? Definitely not me. I've been fighting with my weight for years.

I decided to investigate this idea further and try some changes in my diet. Since returning from Christmas vacation 10 lbs heavier, I have been paying closer attention to my diet choices and making selections that create a better PH balance for my body. I am proud to say that I have lost the 10 lbs I gained over Christmas and today is January 24th. These were very easy changes to incorporate into my daily life. I noticed an increase in energy right away and a decrease in appetite within a day or two. This has been the best (and most reasonable) route to appetite control that I've tried. This one gets a thumbs up from me!
